From the recording Bedlam Boys
A new arrangement of a very old song; the first published version appeared in the early 18th century in a collection published by Thomas d'Urfey, "Wit and Mirth; Or Pills to Purge Melancholy". The song is certainly about madness - "Bedlam" is the infamous Bethlem Royal Hospital insane asylum, London - and so a certain frenetic energy in the arrangement seemed appropriate. The history is disturbing, but the song is fun, with an air of embracing one's circumstances.
